Beyond HQ's Front Yard Gets a Native-Plant Makeover
Beyond's front yard has been entirely re-sculpted and planted with native plants through a partnership with the Watershed Management Group (WMG). WMG conducted its 2026 spring water harvesting certification course on-site at our headquarters from March 11 to 13. During that time, 15 participants from Arizona and across the country spent the week in Tucson learning water harvesting principles and applying them directly to our facility.
The capstone of the project was a two-day fieldwork project. Key improvements included:
Removing a layer of coarse rock
Regrading the land to direct water away from the building and prevent pooling near the foundation
Creating a raised pathway between the front door and the street
Excavating passive water-harvesting basins to collect rainfall runoff from the roof and infiltrate it into the soil
Planting a variety of native trees and shrubs, which will provide shade, privacy, and beauty for years to come
These new plants will thrive on the passive rainwater harvesting basins sculpted by the WMG participants.
This partnership was the idea of WMG co-founder Catlow. BEYOND is especially grateful to WMG staff Luis, Joselyn, and Valerisa for their leadership. We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to our team parents for their vital contributions:
Tom, who prepared the land with his tractor
Darby, who contributed her expertise in desert horticulture along with many beautiful plants
Richard, who ensured the WMG participants felt welcome and has taken loving care of watering the plants during their establishment
Bo, for delivering wood chips to provide ground cover and reduce evaporation losses
We are so proud of this transformation and grateful for the community effort that made it possible.
