Ignacio Rivera de Rosales
Beyond Racing Founder & Head Coach
A coach’s job is, first and foremost, to understand where each athlete is and guide them toward becoming the next best version of themselves — both on and off the bike.
I believe that coaching youth starts with building character, discipline, and teamwork before focusing on structured training. My goal is to create an environment where young riders feel supported, confident, and ready to believe in themselves.

The job of the coach is to understand where the athletes currently are and how to help them become the next best version of themselves. This may be in an athletic pursuit, a spiritual pursuit, or academic. A great coach will give people the self confidence to find what they need within themselves to be their very best.
I believe in the mantra that, How you do anything, is how you do everything, so especially when coaching youth the whole person needs to be understood and acknowledged before you can start to challenge them to grow. When I first engage junior riders and they join the team they first need to learn the discipline of being on a team, how to treat themselves and others, and how to commit to the process of being an athlete. If all of these character traits are understood then we can talk about the athletic pursuit through structured training. But until the junior has made peace with the idea that they are an athlete and part of a team, there is little that structured training can do, because they do not have the discipline.
That is why I have weekly team practices. This gives the new rider a place to learn all of these character traits with other coaches and peers. At practice they can learn how to interact with others while they work hard. They can learn to show up on time and be prepared to work hard physically and emotionally, they can learn how to support their teammates, and take direction from coaches, and they can of course start to get some high quality work in.
So much about sport and growing and learning has nothing to do with the technicality of the sport. It's all about the support network that the athlete feels and lives in. The job of the coach is to create an environment that the athlete and in our case the young person feels confident to try to be themselves. Our job is to believe in them so that they can believe in themselves.

Beyond Racing Assistant Coach
As a Tucson native who’s spent the last eight years racing professionally, I’ve seen how much the right environment can shape an athlete. That’s why I work to create practices where riders can show up, work hard, support one another, and still have fun doing it.
I’m SafeSport certified, a dog lover, snack enthusiast, and — as my teammates like to say — pretty okay at bikes.

Bike racing should be both challenging and fun — a place where riders push themselves, laugh a lot, and learn to love the process. My goal is to help young athletes feel confident, inspired, and supported as they feed off each other’s energy and grow together. I bring the perspective of a female racer who started later in life and discovered that it’s never too late to chase something new and a little intimidating.
I learned by asking endless questions and figuring things out (sometimes the hard way!) about balance, training, and life — lessons I now share to make the path a little smoother for others.More than anything, I want riders to try new things, build real teamwork, and help them grow into strong, resilient humans on and off the bike.

Daniela Diamente
Executive Director, Beyond
I believe in the capacity of all people, especially youth, to be healthy, engaged, and good people. I hold a Masters in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Arizona, with a focus on youth development and education. I helped to build up the education program at BICAS (a bicycle recycling center) and was instrumental in launching Cyclovia Tucson for its first two inaugural events. I co-founded El Grupo (with a mission to empower youth through bicycles) with my husband, Ignacio—who re-introduced me to the bicycle and the worlds that it opens. I stepped down after 15 years as the Executive Director in 2019 and completed a yearlong bicycle trip with my family.
I like to inspire movement, confidence, and leadership in others. I love to ride bikes, hike, and move every way you can, especially with my teenage son and with young ladies on Beyond Racing. I am a Level III USAC Coach and have numerous trainings and 20 years of teaching safe cycling and youth development.
Currently, I am the business owner and co-leader of Tucson CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) and a Certified Fletcher Pilates Instructor who teaches in the School of Dance at the University of Arizona. My favorite mantra is: how you do anything is how you do everything.
