A Parent's Perspective: Showing Up When It's Hard
A note from Amira, a Beyond Racing parent:
After my first experience spectating at Valley of the Sun and the Tucson Bicycle Classic, and in previous years at 24 HOP, I can wholeheartedly say how incredibly impressed I am with this team.
We all know that placing well, or even winning, is impressive and absolutely worthy of celebration. But today I want to recognize something just as powerful: the riders who don't stand on the podium. The ones who have a tough race. The ones who get pulled, deal with mechanical issues, crash, or push their bodies to the limit and still come up short of their goals.
It's one thing to stay motivated when you're "winning." It's something entirely different to keep showing up when winning feels out of reach, when it looks like defeat, disappointment, or failure. To finish far behind the pack. To not finish at all. And then to come back and do it again anyway. Those are the moments that reveal true character.
Showing up when things are going well is easy. Showing up when you're struggling, when you're cold, exhausted, hungry, overheated, or questioning why you woke up at 4:00 a.m. to race, is what makes you exceptional.
Every single one of you has done something new, intimidating, challenging, and just plain hard. Every one of you has faced doubt and discomfort. And every one of you continues to show up. That is impressive beyond measure.
Congratulations, not just for your results at 24 HOP, Valley of the Sun, and the Tucson Bicycle Classic, but for the resilience, grit, and heart you demonstrate every time you clip in. You are doing life the right way, and you're setting an incredible example for everyone around you.
Big congratulations, team.
